Debate Follow Up: What Was Barely Mentioned and Why This One Issue Makes Your Decision Easy

If you watched the first Democratic presidential debate last week, you saw the candidates hotly debate issues such as the economy, immigration, health care and racism. However, there was one issue that was not debated much at all.

What was it?

Abortion.

The abortion issue is a fiercely debated topic among Americans, but when it comes to Democrats, it seems there is not much to debate. Jason Yates, CEO of My Faith Votes, shared his opinion with Fox News as to why abortion wasn’t a hot topic in the Democratic debates in this article:

When it comes to voting, abortion should be the No. 1 issue to consider if you want to ensure that the candidate you vote for stands for biblical principles. David Barton, founder of WallBuilders, says that if you know how a person will vote on abortion, you know how he or she will vote on the majority of the other issues. According to Barton’s research, those who vote in favor of abortion are also in favor of other policies that contradict God’s Word more than 90 percent of the time.

If we claim to be a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, we must be willing to put aside our own thoughts and opinions about abortion and seek God’s opinion, which can be found in His Word. In the Bible, God has a lot to say about the issue of life and death, as this is His main concern.

Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Proverbs 6:16-19 tells us how much God hates the shedding of innocent blood:

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Why is voting for life the No.1 issue in the nation? Watch George Pearsons, Michele Bachmann, David Barton and Keith Butler discuss abortion from God’s perspective and the importance of voting for life.

Additionally, the United States Declaration of Independence says that all men have been endowed with certain unalienable rights, which include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. When we choose to vote for candidates who support abortion, we are giving our consent to the shedding of innocent blood that directly contradicts God’s commands and our country’s Declaration of Independence.

A mother’s womb should be the safest place for an unborn child, but statistics show that abortion was the leading cause of death worldwide in 2018, killing 42 million people. Contrast that with 8.2 million cancer deaths. In America, just under 1 million babies are aborted every year. While abortion rates have been dropping in the last decade, it still remains the leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 60 million abortions total.

When you murder your own population, you are destroying your country (Proverbs 14:8). Just think of the lives these people might have lived, and imagine the contributions they undoubtedly would have made to society. This group would have included scholars, athletes, musicians, doctors, ministers, teachers, scientists, engineers, artists and more. They would have been mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, with children and grandchildren of their own who would have changed the world.

Every life is precious to God. As humans, we may create a baby’s body physically, but it is God who puts life in the fetus. You see, abortion is not a political issue; it’s a biblical issue.

Abortion was barely mentioned in this first Democrat debate, but it’s the one issue that should make your decision easier. As members of the Body of Christ in the earth, the most important action we can take, aside from praying, is to vote for candidates who will work to protect the lives of the most vulnerable and innocent in our society. If we choose life in this country, we are choosing God and blessing.
